Peter & Sons is a game provider that likes to do things a little differently and think outside of the box regarding the slots they create. So I was pleased to see their slot Voodoo Hex arrive in my inbox this morning to see what the developer had up their sleeve for this release. As I’ve now come to expect from this provider, the design and graphics of the slot are both unique to Peter & Sons and of very high quality, so it’s the usual thumbs up in that department from me. After reading some details of the game in a promo pack, I learned that there is a bit of backstory to the slot, with players being whisked off to 1921 and the french quarters in New Orleans. Mardi Gras is in full swing, as you’ll hear from the stunning audio that accompanies Voodoo hex, and the place you’ll be hanging out to spin the reels of this title is near the local voodoo shop; it sounds a bit spooky doesn’t it?
The playfield may be small on this slot title, but the paytable still consists of 9 symbols. The lower paying values are represented by 4 different coloured tarot cards, reaching up to 1.2x in value if you hit 3 across a payline. Premium paying symbols are the voodoo doll, shrunken head, snake, and priestess, with a 3 of a kind win paying 1x, 1.5x, 2x, and 2.5x, respectively. Mystery Stack Respins
The mystery stack respins can become active in the base game, and the free spins feature on Voodoo Hex. If 2 reels are filled with the same symbol, they will transform into mystery symbols, and the mini bonus will begin. Each respin that takes place will see the mystery symbols move down one position with them all then revealing the same randomly selected symbol from the payable. If a win is created, then the win multiplier to the side of the reels will increment in value by a further x1. The seasoned slot players amongst you will almost instantly see the similarities between Voodoo Hex and Push Gaming’s classic slot title Razor Shark. However, I will point out that Voodoo Hex doesn’t charge you in the base game when the mystery symbols are in play, unlike Razor Shark. Anyway, summing up this one, I found the game thoroughly entertaining during my review. It made a welcome change to play across just 3 reels without countless modifiers kicking in on every spin to expand this, that, and everything else.
